Fr. Matt Hewitt
Biography
Fr. Hewitt, a native of Sioux City, attended Sacred Heart School and Bishop Heelan High School. He graduated from Creighton University with a double major in Accounting and Finance. After working three years in an accounting firm in Portland, OR, Fr. Hewitt entered the seminary and studied philosophy with the Benedictines for two years at St. Meinrad’s in Indiana. Afterward, he completed four years of priestly formation at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy while studying theology at the Gregorian University and the Angelicum University.
Fr. Hewitt was ordained in 2004 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany at the age of 32. He was the associate pastor at St. Mary’s in Storm Lake for two years. During this time, he taught religion at St. Mary's. In 2006, Fr. Hewitt became the associate pastor of the Cathedral and served the parish as a bilingual minister for three years. He was also appointed the interim director of Hispanic Ministry for the Diocese of Sioux City and served in this Department during this time.
